SILICA for Healthy Hair & Skin

The following is one in an ongoing series of columns entitled Healthy Hair by . View all columns in series
Silica is one of the most fundamental elements of the earths crust. Humans have a crucial need for this active element. When we are born we have a very high amount of natural silica in the body and low amounts of calcium. Then as we age the amount of calcium increases and the amount of silica decreases.

Silica helps the body to affectively assimilate and utilize essential minerals and vitamins for bone development. It also provides vitality to our hair and skin.

Researchers, Louis Kervran (biophysicist) and Dr. Richard Barmakian conducted a groundbreaking study. What they found was that despite the presence of high quantities of calcium in the body, the fractured bone of a patient did not heal until they began taking liberal amounts of silica. The researchers concluded that unless a sufficient amount of silica is present in the body, calcium could not be absorbed well.

It is an acknowledged truth that healthy individuals have a high amount of silica in their blood vessels and other organs. Often, it has been found that those who have very low amounts of silica often suffer degenerative diseases.

Supplementing the body with vegetable silica provides a very critical function. Silica assists the absorption of calcium and the formation of collagen. Vegetable silica supports cleansing, toning and hydrating the body while giving energy to our hair and skin.

Our hair is a living tissue made up of fibrous proteins (collagen) and responds remarkably well to vegetable silica supplementation. Silica offers us a powerful, healing therapy both within and without. What I found personally valuable to my health and beauty regime is to regularly drink vegetable silica tea and apply as a final rinse on my hair, after shampooing, to assist in healing, moisturizing and repairing the hair.

Below is a list of some of the silica rich herbs to drink as a tea and use as a hair tea rinse. You may use any one, two, or, all of these together.

  • Sting Nettles: Rich with silica and helps to block dihydrotestoterone (DHT). This is a hormone that causes hair loss.
  • Horsetail: Horsetail stems are imbued with silica and contain the most silica known in the plant kingdom. Silica forms collagen and protein, and helps to strengthen weak and brittle hair.
  • Oat straw: Contains a high amount of silica and has emollient properties that aid in the hydration of the hair.
  • Chickweed: Loaded with nutrients that are high in minerals, vitamins and B factors like folic acid.
Benefits of Silica:
  • Regulates pH levels and increases the alkalinity of the body.
  • Is the glue that holds the body together and makes our skin firm, and our hair thick and lustrous.
  • Aids in the utilization and maximum absorption of key nutrients.
  • Increases self-repair and cellular regeneration.
  • Provides clear, and smooth skin.
  • Solid crystalline structure with piezoelectric energies.
  • Helps strengthen our immune.
