PORTLAND, ME (December 20, 2009) - The 2010 Integrative Healthcare Symposium, taking place February 25-27 in New York City, brings together practitioners and professionals from across the integrative healthcare spectrum. The event features three days of evidence-based, scientific conference content presented by a bevy of world renowned speakers. The 2010 conference will cover five specific areas of focus; Women's Health, Environmental Health, Nutrition, Brain and Mind Health, and Leadership and Policy.
The focus on Women’s Health features a Keynote Presentation, "Women's Bodies, Women’s Wisdom: Creating the Empowered Feminine," from Christiane Northrup, MD, internationally known for her empowering approach to women’s health and wellness. Enriching the focus are eight sessions on the topic, including two sessions of note, presented by Marcelle Pick, RNC, MSN, OB/GYN, NP and Chris Meletis, ND.
Marcelle Pick, RNC, MSN, OB/GYN, NP, is a co-founder and owner of the world renowned Women to Women clinic, bringing the knowledge of over twenty-five years experience. Pick will present "Infertility – An Alternative Approach;" with infertility becoming an increasing common issue for women, Pick will discuss a range of causes and treatments, including the conventional approach, alternative therapies, as well as the effect a patient’s emotional history has on their fertility.
Chris Meletis, ND, will present "Iodine—A Critical Missing Link for Breast Health and Full Body Wellness." Dr. Meletis will discuss the use of iodine as a therapeutic tool in the pursuit of breast health and whole body wellness, as well as the link between thyroid and breast disease. Dr. Meletis has authored 14 books and was awarded the 2003 Naturopathic Physician of the Year by the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians.
The Brain and Mind Health focus includes six sessions, with topics ranging from "The Secret Life of Mitochondria" to "Spirituality in the Clinical Setting." David Perlmutter, MD, FACN, an international leader in the field of nutritional influences on neurological disorders, will participate in two of these sessions.
A panel, featuring David Perlmutter, MD, FACN, Jay Lombard, DO, Richard Brown, and Roberta Lee, MD, will bring together leaders in brain and mind health to discuss the current understandings and answer key questions about the science behind declining mental health from autism to depression to Alzheimer’s, in “Brain and Mind Health: Integrative Medicine Approaches to Treating Neurological and Neuropsychiatric.”
In a breakout session, Perlmutter will explore neurogenesis, the growth of new brain cells, and neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself. This session, “Neurogenesis, Neuroplasticity, and Your Future Brain,” will discuss the influences of caloric restriction, physical and mental exercise and specific nutrients, and stress on these processes.
In addition to sessions focusing on Women’s Health, and Brain and Mind Health, the conference program also includes a focus on Leadership and Policy, Environmental Health, and Nutrition.
