Santa Barbara, CA (PRWEB) May 31, 2006 -- Vitamin Angel Alliance has begun organizing children's and adult multiple vitamin shipments to assist in the Indonesia Earthquake Relief effort. To help lower the likelihood of opportunistic infections and diseases compounding the present tragedy, Vitamin Angels is working with an alliance of companies in the natural products and pharmaceutical industries to help bring in emergency nutritional supplies to the villagers in the Jogyakarta region.
"We have been in contact with our partners in Indonesia who have noted that the situation is grim. Right now we are beginning to receive vitamin donations in Los Angeles that will be air freighted along with other relief supplies to the earthquake region as early as this week," said Howard B. Schiffer, president, Vitamin Angel Alliance. "We hope that the natural products and pharmaceutical industries will reach out and generously donate children's and adult multi-vitamins, as well as first aid supplies to our relief effort."
Vitamin Angels recently heard from a colleague whose husband was filming in Indonesia near the rim of the volcano Mirapi when the earthquake shook and the volcano erupted. He noted that there is complete chaos in the area, with people caught between fearing another tsunami and an eruption of the volcano. Presently people are lying in parking lots and in fields awaiting medical help and nutritional supplies.
Vitamin Angel Alliance (www.vitaminangel.org) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing basic nutrition to people in need since 1994. Vitamin Angel Alliance responds to the most pressing health concerns identified by the communities requesting its assistance. Nutritional products are contributed to the Alliance by an ever-enlarging association of Vitamin Angels -- a consortium of nutritional supplement manufacturers, distributors and retailers. These goods are then donated to charitable health care facilities and programs located in countries across the globe, including the United States.
