Nutrition - Take Vitamin B3 to Take Care of Your Heart
Everyone needs vitamin B3 to maintain a good physical and mental condition. Besides participating in the processes of obtaining energy, vitamin B3 reduces cholesterol; has a preventive role in cardiovascular illness; is used to control mental disorders; prevents gastrointestinal disorders; participates in the synthesis of several hormones. The consumption of alcohol, contraceptive pills and sleeping pills can cause a deficit of this vitamin. The daily required amount for B3 can be found in milk, eggs, salmon, sardines, tuna, oysters, pork, beef liver, rabbit, whole rice, wheat germ, yeast, pears, grapes, peanuts, nuts, Swiss chard, pumpkin, spinach, potatoes and tomatoes.
Asians switch increasingly to Western health supplements
Asians are increasingly switching from traditional medicine to Western health supplements. The findings in a recently published survey of over 6,000 people in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, China and Thailand shows how Western dietary supplements have replaced traditional supplements, such as ginseng and bird's nest for many Asians.
Government Recommended Low Fat Diets May Not Provide Enough Essential Fatty Acids, Particularly Those of the Omega-3 Family
The American Heart Association, the National Cholesterol Educational Program of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and the World Health Organization recommend an intake of saturated, monounsaturated, and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) at about 10% of calories. However, based on findings of essential fatty acids (EFA) deficiency in patients who follow these low fat dietary recommendations, some researchers propose that the low fat government-recommended diets for preventing heart disease do not contain enough essential fats, the kind of fatty acids found in vegetables, lean meats, fish, and eggs.

The Healer Within
One of the self-healing methods of the ancients that is easy and inexpensive yet absolutely profound is breath practice. In "Exhale to Compress the Organs" Dr. Roger Jahnke reveals a breath practice that is quite remarkable. This method takes the exhalation of the full chest and abdominal breath to a radical extreme that dramatically shifts the pressure in the pelvic, abdominal and chest cavities. The exhalation continues, until it feels as if the body and organs are compressing toward the center. This practice has a profound effect on the nervous system and the lymphatic elimination of waste from the tissues. It unleashes a powerful healing energy. It takes just a few moments, costs nothing is always with you, just a breath away.
Mind Over Matter
Growing old isn't easy for most people. In our culture it frequently represents loneliness and abandonment as families grow apart. In "Depression: key insights for the elderly - part I" Barry Bittman, M.D alerts us that depression among the elderly is most often undiagnosed. The consequences of our inability to accurately recognize depression extends far beyond just psychological implications. It impacts the course of many diseases due to the mind-body connection which directly and indirectly links nervous, endocrine and immune function. As a first step learn the typical constellation of symptoms associated with depression.
Understanding Homeopathy
The homeopathic method of individualizing a medicine based on the totality of the person's symptoms is a sophisticated 21st century science. Homeopaths assert that body and mind are inseparable, and they posit the necessity of looking at "bodymind" types. In "Homeopathic Typologies: The Bodymind Personalities" Dana Ullman, M.P.H. introduces constitutional therapies, the ones based on certain groupings of bodymind symptom patterns corresponding with the sensitivity of a particular homeopathic medicine.
Mind Boosters
Vinpocetine is chemically related to vincamine, an alkaloid found in the periwinkle plant. It was introduced into clinical practice in Europe more than two decades ago for the treatment of cerebrovascular disorders and related symptoms. In "Vinpocetine" Ray Sahelian, M.D. reports that experiments with vinpocetine indicate that it can dilate blood vessels, enhance circulation in the brain, improve oxygen utilization, make red blood cells more pliable, and inhibit aggregation of platelets; and may even have antioxidant properties.

Teeccino - Destress With Caffeine Free Herbal Coffee
Coffee drinkers may be surprised to learn that herbal coffee
actually has nutritional benefits which help nourish and
keep the body healthy. Coffee, on the other hand, only
supplies the drug, caffeine, which stimulates your adrenal
glands but does not provide energy - actually it could
deplete the body's energy reserves. Teeccino is the first
herbal coffee on the market - a blend of herbs, grains,
fruits and nuts that are roasted, ground and brewed just
like coffee. Dark, rich, and full-bodied, Teeccino brings
you all the satisfaction of a robust brew with no caffeine
reaction. Teeccino tastes mildly sweet from dates and figs,
with only 15 calories per cup.

Riordan, M.D. and Ron Hunninghake, M.D. was published in the Journal of Orthomolecular Medicine. It offers details from an actual case history detailing how testing revealed sensitivities to specific foods. The successful treatment was control of the child's diet to keep these foods to a minimum, plus use of large doses of vitamin C when a headache was triggered.
Healthy Kitchen - Healthy Foods
Fish is a very good quality protein, easily usable by our body, and a complete protein, containing all our essential amino acids. In "Seafood" Elson M. Haas, M.D. outlines the vast array of benefits of eating various varieties of fish, such as the EPA and DHA contained in many fish help to lower blood cholesterol and protect us from hardening of the arteries and help to reduce platelet stickiness, which then reduces clotting potential and increases clotting time, which then decreases the likelihood of arterial thrombosis, heart attacks, and strokes.
