SPONSOR - SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE
MOVIES THAT INSPIRE, HEAL AND TRANSFORM
The SPIRITUAL CINEMA CIRCLE offers a service that's unique
and deeply needed. The CIRCLE gives you a way to bring hours
of inspiring entertainment into your life each month, while
making an important contribution to the world. In addition,
it's an incredible bargain. If, like me, you love movies,
but you find it harder and harder to go to theaters because
of the violence, emptiness and overall lack of quality and
imagination that most of the current crop represents, The
CIRCLE is a wonderful opportunity.

Alert: U.S. Proposes Dousing Wilderness Areas with Herbicides
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has proposed to apply massive amounts of herbicides to public lands in 17 Western states. The BLM claims these pesticides need to be applied to forests, rangelands and aquatic areas in order to reduce the risk of fire and slow the spread of invasive weeds. The pesticides that would be used include persistent and mobile chemicals, including known developmental and reproductive toxins, and "new chemicals that may be developed in the future."
EPA Fines Dupont for Poisoning Consumers with Teflon Cookware
DuPont has agreed to pay a $10.25 million fine for failing to report to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) risk information about a chemical used in the manufacture of fluoropolymers, including some Teflon® products. The fine is the largest civil administrative penalty ever obtained by the EPA under any federal environmental statute.
Widespread Drug Marketing Violations Occurred at APA Convention
More than half the drug makers that participated in the 2002 American Psychiatric Association (APA) convention violated drug marketing rules set up by the association or the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Twenty-four drug companies had booths at the convention. Researchers found sixteen violations of the APA's exhibit rules. Four companies were in violation of the FDA off-label marketing rules, either mentioning products for uses not approved by the FDA or discussing drug use at doses higher than what is recommended.

WELLNESS and
HEALTHY LIVING
CONTINUING OUR 12-STAGE JOURNEY TO WELLNESS
This week our journey focuses on SENSING, the third of 12 keys to wellness in the Wellness Inventory. It is through the senses--seeing, touching, smelling, hearing, tasting--that we come to know and enjoy the world. Our abilities to work, to feel pleasure, to communicate with others, and to impact the world are directly related to our abilities to appreciate and use our sensory input efficiently and creatively.
Simply Well
While an attitude of openness to life is definitely health-promoting, saying yes to life means saying no a good deal of the time, too. People who are afraid of disapproval from others will say yes regardless of their true feelings to avoid rocking the boat. In "Just Say No" John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., explains the health promoting benefits for appropriately saying no.
Keeping Fit
Our nation is experiencing an epidemic of childhood obesity. With less emphasis on physical education, and even the elimination of recess in elementary schools, this sad situation is becoming progressively more prevalent. In "Keep Kids Active" Wayne L. Westcott, Ph.D. presents the benefits of youth strength training to improved body composition. Unlike other forms of exercise, strength training builds muscle and bone resulting in a stronger musculoskeletal system and greater functional capacity.

Root canals have been a source of controversy since the turn of the century, when they first were used to treat nerve damage. In "Root Canal Coverup, Fact or Fiction" Flora Parsa Stay, D.D.S. explains the process as performed by conventional dentists and biological dentists.
Healthy Alternatives
Almost 40 per cent of all deaths of people between the ages of 35 and 74 arise as the result of stroke or heart attack. The majority of these crises result from circulatory restrictions or obstructions which are both preventable and treatable by chelation therapy. In "Some Causes of Circulatory Obstruction" Leon Chaitow, N.D., D.O., M.R.O. validates the value of chelation as an intervention strategy when the entire arterial network is damaged and requires a method of treatment which addresses all 40,000 miles of it, rather than just local, isolated points of major blockage.
Women's Health Detective
In "Is Your Health a Priority?" Nan Kathryn Fuchs, Ph.D. stresses that your priorities are not based on the amount of time you spend in any area. For something to be a priority, you need to spend enough time doing something to get the results you're looking for. A shift in your actions – making your health a top priority – can make all the difference between what you want and what you get.
Healthy Woman Update
In "A Case of Cystitis, Vaginitis and Edema of the Eyelids" Judyth Reichenberg-Ullman, N.D., M.S.W., DHANP presents a case study that demonstrates why the homeopathic remedy Apis, made from an angry honeybee, helps with hot, red, and swollen symptoms.

Fabulous Functional Foods
Danish chef Oscar Umahro Cadogan brings us succulent and savory "Fabulous Apple-Rhubarb-Pie with Oats" - and it doesn't have any added fat. The pie contains plenty of fiber and tastes absolutely heavenly. But be warned: It is addictive and very filling.

A study on aging found that for men the frequency of sexual intercourse was associated with lower death rates. For women the enjoyment of intercourse was associated with longer life. In "Sex May Prolong Life" David S. Sobel, M.D. shows us studies exist to help us understand and enhance the health benefits of one of the most common, and certainly most pleasurable activities we humans experience.
Spiritual Wellness
It's that time of year when we think about giving, but our ideas about giving usually focus on material objects. In "The Gift of Service" Philip Goldberg aims to put you in the mood for a deeper, more gratifying way to give: service. The delicious irony in this: by serving selflessly, you serve yourself. Giving is good for your health. An impressive body of research suggests that those who regularly engage in acts of charity and service are healthier, happier and may even live longer than their more self-involved counterparts.
