Baby's Breathing: Problems Are Not Helped By Steroids
Around 3 per cent of all babies need hospital treatment for bronchiolitis - and doctors routinely give a powerful corticosteroid such as Decadron (dexamethasone) to stop the wheezing. But when researchers tested the drug among 600 children admitted to 20 emergency departments for bronchiolitis, they found it was no better than a placebo, or sugar pill.

Failing Eyesight: It Can Be Caused By Too Much Processed Foods
Processed foods such as white rice, pasta and bread may make your eyesight worse, especially as you get older. These types of foods - carbohydrates with a high glycemic index - can cause age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a common problem among older people. Researchers estimate that up to 20 per cent of cases of AMD could have been prevented had the patients eaten far less processed foods. Even a simple dietary change of replacing white bread with whole grain bread could have reduced the risk.

Teens Who Wheeze Eat Too Little Fruit, Fish
Most teenagers in the United States and Canada don't choose to eat fish and fruit nearly as often as they choose burgers and chips. Now, a study of more than 2,100 teens conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health and Health Canada has found that those who eat the least fruit and fish have the weakest lungs. About 20 percent of people under 18 years old cough, wheeze and suffer from asthma and bronchitis.
