Baby's Breathing: Problems Are Not Helped By Steroids
Around 3 per cent of all babies need hospital treatment for bronchiolitis -
and doctors routinely give a powerful corticosteroid such as Decadron
(dexamethasone) to stop the wheezing. But when researchers tested the drug
among 600 children admitted to 20 emergency departments for bronchiolitis,
they found it was no better than a placebo, or sugar pill.
Failing Eyesight: It Can Be Caused By Too Much Processed Foods
Processed foods such as white rice, pasta and bread may make your eyesight
worse, especially as you get older. These types of foods - carbohydrates
with a high glycemic index - can cause age-related macular degeneration
(AMD), a common problem among older people. Researchers estimate that up to
20 per cent of cases of AMD could have been prevented had the patients
eaten far less processed foods. Even a simple dietary change of replacing
white bread with whole grain bread could have reduced the risk.
Teens Who Wheeze Eat Too Little Fruit, Fish
Most teenagers in the United States and Canada don't choose to eat fish and
fruit nearly as often as they choose burgers and chips. Now, a study of
more than 2,100 teens conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health and
Health Canada has found that those who eat the least fruit and fish have
the weakest lungs. About 20 percent of people under 18 years old cough,
wheeze and suffer from asthma and bronchitis.

goals, and shows you how to tap into that power.
Healthy
Computing
The moment most people begin keyboarding or mousing they increase their
breathing rate. While working at the computer, adults' breathing rate
increases by 30% to 18 breaths per minute, while the breathing rate of
young boys playing computer games increases by 68% to 25 breaths per
minute. This rapid breathing often contributes to sub-clinical
hyperventilation, increased neck and shoulder tension and general fatigue.
In "Breathe Effortlessly"
AUDIO: BREATHING: THE MASTER KEY TO SELF-HEALING
COMPLETE BREATHING COURSE WITH ANDREW WEIL, MD
The health you enjoy today, and for the rest of your life, begins with your
next breath. In fact, breathing is so crucial to your body's ability to
heal and sustain itself that Dr. Andrew Weil says: "If I had to limit my
advice on healthier living to just one tip, it would be simply to learn how
to breathe correctly." On Breathing: The Master Key to Self Healing,
listeners will learn a complete course of eight breathing exercises that
Dr. Weil uses in his own life, and has prescribed to hundreds of patients
over the past two decades, Dr. Weil reports that these breathing exercises
get more favorable response from patients than anything else he teaches.

surprise: older and middle-age people reported sleeping better when they
added regular exercise to their routine, reports Dr. David Sobel in

program, subjects were able to fall asleep about 15 minutes earlier and
sleep about 45 minutes longer at night.
