Continuing our Wellness Journey - Eating
This week our journey focuses on EATING, the 4th of 12 keys to wellness in
the Wellness Inventory. Most Americans' eating patterns represent a public health crisis. If a new disease erupted that was one tenth as destructive as most people's diets, there would be a massive public outcry to find thecure. The way many people eat is the result of a lifestyle that glorifies immediate satisfaction and neglects the long-term consequences. View more

Does Insurance Coverage Harm the Complementary Health Care?
As part of an exploration of the potential impact of insurance coverage on the evolution of Yoga therapy, I asked Tino Villani, DC, to reflect on how insurance coverage has changed chiropractic. Villani's very candid comments - from a long-time practitioners who is also a managed care executive - sparked quite an exchange among readers. Nutritional Medicine & Longevity: "Vitamin B12: Under Appreciated" - Richard Kunin, MD
Vitamin B12 does not fit the mold of the deficiency diseases theory, or the one-disease-one-drug model of medicine that is taught in medical schools. The most important medical fact about vitamin B12 is that deficiency does not show up only as anemia. In "Vitamin B12: Under Appreciated" Richard A.
Kunin, M.D. details important facts, including nerve and brain symptoms which need to be treated promptly or the damage may be permanent.

Raw Food Materia Medica - "Grapefruit" - Brigitte Mars
Grapefruit (Citrus paradisi, C. decumana) is the largest member of the Rutaceae (Citrus) Family. Grapefruit was grown in India and Malaysia more than 4,000 years ago; however, grapefruit was "discovered" on Barbados and by 1880, had become a major Florida crop. Grapefruits are classified as alkaline, cold, sweet and sour. Grapefruit contains vitamin C, folic acid, calcium, iron, and potassium. Grapefruit also contains the fiber pectin that helps lower blood cholesterol levels, and dissolves arterial plaque. Look for firm, but springy to the touch grapefruits that are heavy for their size. There's a Yogi in the Kitchen: "The Yogi's Secret Ingredient" - Siri Ved Kaur Khalsa
Regardless of what ingredients are used, if the cook's consciousness is not
prayerful, loving, or joyful ... that food will not be a healing food. Period. It is important to have a state of mind that is free of anger when you are preparing any meal. Instead be filled with heartfelt love for those
(including the self!) who will be eating the food, joy in its preparation, and, most importantly, a sense of the Divine coming into the food. In "The Yogi's Secret Ingredient" Siri-Ved Kaur Khalsa shows why restaurant food
becomes so tiring. It only satisfies the belly; rarely does it elevate, nurture, and heal.
