They also have the ability to dilate at critical points around the head in order to maintain a constant delivery of new blood cells.

EDITOR'S PICK - WELLNESS, COACHING & INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE

"Bringing Wellness to the Forefront of Integrative Medicine: Does Wellness Coaching Hold the Key?" (Integrative Healthcare Symposium)
Have we been looking in the wrong direction in trying to create a sustainable health care system? Looking through the lens of the disease management model, in our attempt to control health care costs and the continuing decline of the health status of our population, has only exacerbated the problem. As Einstein commented, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
Join HealthWorld CEO and co-founder James Strohecker and Pamela Burris, RN, MSN for a PractiCAM workshop at the Integrative Healthcare Symposium in New York City February 21, 2009. This workshop explores the integration of two models that can provide a new direction for healthcare practice - the wellness paradigm and the coaching paradigm. Following the introduction of core concepts, real-life examples that clarify the implementation of this wellness coaching model will be presented. Participants will experience wellness coaching in action through a live demonstration and will then have the opportunity to practice a wellness coaching technique in a group exercise. We will conclude with a summation of possibilities for the incorporation of wellness coaching into your integrative medicine center or professional healthcare practice.

Your Eyesight and You - "Releasing the Inner Barriers to Seeing: Exploring the Mind/Body Connection to Vision" (Part Two) - Martin Sussman Glasses and contacts only deal with the symptoms of not seeing clearly. Using them does not address any of the underlying factors that may have led to their need in the first place. They do not change the underlying patterns that caused the problem in the first place. I have witnessed many powerful healings as people explore and release their inner barriers to seeing and being seen. As people move beyond their habitual way of seeing, something extraordinary emerges - an expanded view of who they are and of the deeper potential that lies within.

Integrator Blog - James Gordon's CMBM Posts Recommendations from Well-Attended Obama Healthcare Community Discussion
James Gordon, MD, past chair of the White House Commission on Complementary and Alternative Medicine Policy, held a Healthcare Community Discussion on December 30th. But anyone who knows Gordon's interests will guess that he assembled a wide-ranging group, and that the recommendations ranged as widely. They urge that the Department of Education become a central agency in promotion and prevention. They would demote the "baleful influence" of two key influencer-stakeholders. Got any guesses? The #1 recommendation is a general direction for health reform. Any guesses here? This is stimulating reading.

Secrets of Self-Healing - Dr. Maoshing Ni
East meets West in Secrets of Self-Healing: Harness Nature's Power to Heal Common Ailments, Boost Your Vitality, and Achieve Optimum Wellness, is anextraordinary guide to natural healing by a prominent doctor of Chinese medicine and the author of Secrets of Longevity. Dr. Mao's philosophy is simple: We all have a built-in healing ability, so why not try to activate it with natural means before we resort to drugs and invasive procedures? For the common cold, why not exploit the power of garlic, ginger, and the herb astragalus instead of taking cold medicine that simply replaces symptoms with side effects? For insomnia, why not try to find a long-term solution through acupressure or feng shui instead of popping sleeping pills, which don't treat the source of the problem? View more
