The Best Practice for Disease Prevention is Practicing a Healthy Lifestyle
Over the past several decades, a series of observational trials resulted in exciting prospects for the benefits of antioxidant vitamins and chronic disease. These encouraging results led the scientific community to conduct the recently released randomized, controlled trials (RCTs), which seemed to be the next logical step. While everyone - researchers, industry, and consumers - would have been thrilled to see the positive findings from observational studies confirmed, this has not been the case. This leads to more intrigue for the scientific community - to try to determine why the results from these recent RCTs are in apparent conflict with the existing body of data.

Doctors Petition FDA for Additional Labeling Changes on Avandia
Avandia's labeling information should alert patients that diet can be a safer and more effective approach, says a petition to be filed with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) today.
The petition comes just one month after the FDA called for a new black-box warning on Avandia, alerting patients to increased risk of heart attacks. The drug already included warnings of heart failure. Researchers estimate that Avandia (rosiglitazone) has caused more than 13,000 heart attacks and heart failure events in the United States alone.

From Fatigued to Fantastic - "Glaucoma" - Jacob Teitelbaum, MD
Glaucoma is the presence of increased pressure in the eyeball. The fluid that makes up the inside of the eye (called the vitreous humor) circulates into and out of the eye. When the flow out of the eye is slowed, pressure inside the eye rises. Holistic physicians suspect the backup of fluid in the eye may be caused by lack of integrity of the collagen in the eye tissues, according to Jacob Teitelbaum, MD, who offers a natural approach to treating chronic glaucoma. Omega-3 Cuisine - "Recipes for Health & Pleasure" - Alan Roettinger
We would like to welcome a new column from chef Alan Roettinger, entitled "Omega-3 Cuisine". Alan's new cookbook, by the same name has a subtitle he doesn't want anyone to miss: Recipes for health and pleasure. "It's become an ongoing goal of mine to bring these two together, because in my mind they are inseparable. I've always maintained that in order for food to be healthful, it must be enjoyable (although it hadn't occurred to me until recently that ultimately the reverse is also true). My assertion was purely intuitive, but I'm glad to say some recent studies are backing me up." View More
Omega-3 Cuinsine - "Herb-roasted Garlic Puree" - Alan Roettinger
This is a variation of one of the recipes in Omega-3 Cuisine. I was inspired to make it as a flavor twist for mashed potatoes last Thanksgiving. The herbs are simply that "poultry seasoning" combination of parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme (tell me you're not singing it in your head and visualizing Dustin Hoffman zooming the wrong way on Bay Bridge in his red Alfa Romeo). A little of this stuff goes a long way. I've used it in a number of other things since Thanksgiving, including our traditional post-holiday "Turkey-Wild Mushroom-Barley Soup," and a very creamy balsamic vinaigrette. It's perfect on toast.

Ask Dr. Orloff About Intuitive Healing - "How To Stop Absorbing Other People's Negative Emotions"
Emotional freedom means learning how to stay centered in a stressful, highly emotionally charged world. Since emotions such as fear, anger, and frustration are energies, you can potentially "catch" them from people without realizing it," says Judith Orloff, MD in "How To Stop Absorbing Other People's Negative Emotions". If you tend to be an emotional sponge, it's vital to know how to avoid taking on an individual's negative emotions or the free-floating kind in crowds.
