Why you need more sun when you're over 50
We’re finally realizing that we actually do need some sun on our skins – and a new study has found that we need even more of it as we get older. Sunshine is the very best source of vitamin D, and it seems our natural levels fall as we get older, possibly because of the ageing process and also because we perhaps don’t go outside quite so often.

Women's Health Detective - "Good Carbs, Bad Carbs – Which Do You Eat?" - Nan Kathryn Fuchs, Ph.D.
If you're on a strict high-protein, you still need carbohydrates. The good ones. In "Good Carbs, Bad Carbs – Which Do You Eat?" Nan Kathryn Fuchs, Ph.D. explains that good carbs are whole foods from plants that contain both sugars and fiber, such as beans, whole grains, starchy vegetables, and fresh fruit. Substitute some of them for saturated (animal) fats and they can help lower your cholesterol. Their fiber binds to cholesterol, carrying it out of your body, and also keeps your blood sugar level. From Fatigued to Fantastic - "Alzheimer's and Senility are Reversible" - Jacob Teitelbaum, MD
Alzheimer's is a common form of dementia (senility) affecting almost 5 million Americans. As our population ages, this is an area that drug companies believe may be quite profitable, so there is heavy advertising being done for the medication Aricept, which has very minimal to modest benefit. By looking at and treating the underlying causes for memory loss, we discover that there is great promise in reversing early senility and memory loss that is often confused with Alzheimer's. Integrator Blog - Daphne White: CAM and Comparative Effectiveness Research - Are We Going to Play?
The idea of "comparative effectiveness research" (CER), the new $1.1 billion economic stimulus program, strikes a happy chord for many in the integrative practice community. Isn't this the appropriate research terrain for showing value of integrative care? In this first of two part Integrator series, reporter and regular Integrator contributor Daphne White, CHTP, shares how she attended the "listening session" of the government's CER advisory board to understand what was going on and see if the integrative practice community was showing up. White ended up taking off her journalist hat and testifying. She shares her perspectives on why and how the integrative practice community should be involved. White's second is a very well-reported analysis of the "kabuki dance" she witnessed as vested medical interests developed their strategies to make sure that the CER initiative does not gore their own oxes.

He shows us how we are better served if we look into our shadows with unabashed honesty and usher what we find into the light.
