WELLNESS & HEALTHY LIVING |
Continuing our Wellness Journey - Moving
This week our journey focuses on Moving, the 5th of 12 keys to wellness in
the Wellness Inventory. Everything in us is moving. The heart pumps, blood flows, lungs expand and contract, eyes roll, eardrums vibrate. To be alive is to be moving. Inhibit the movement and you create illness. Stop movement and you are dead. Allow it fully and you realize wellness. Because of this movement, everything is changing from moment to moment. To block movement therefore is to block change. The moving body freely channels the energy of life. View more
Simply Well - "Create a Bigger Picture of Health" - John W. Travis, MD, MPH
In "Create a Bigger Picture of Health" John W. Travis, M.D., M.P.H., cautions against overconcern for personal health, as obsession with health can be every bit as wasteful of your human potential as ignorance and carelessness can be. He advocates creating a bigger vision where you put your personal concerns in perspective, and are subsumed and fulfilled by a greater need, a greater possibility, a greater love. View more
101 Exercises for the Soul - "What Are You Afraid Of?: Experience Fear & Embrace It" - Dr. Bernie Siegel
Face and embrace what you fear and it will become smaller. When you confront fear, the monster that seems to be threatening you will become a little lizard. But if you keep running, the monster will never cease chasing you. Don’t wait for a life-threatening illness to give yourself permission to take a chance and face your fears.

Healthy Living with Natural Medicine - "Do You Have a Toxic Workplace?" - Holly Lucille, ND, RN
I am not talking about the “toxic workplace” often reported when a work environment is full of backstabbing, gossiping co-workers, a controlling boss or demanding clients. I am talking about toxic substances in your workplace that might be making you physically sick. It is bad enough that we live in a society that is extremely dependent on harmful chemicals. We are exposed to these ubiquitous and devious substances everyday, hiding in plastics, pesticides, car exhaust, soaps, emulsifiers, health and beauty aids, household cleaning products and a number of other places. They are in the food we eat, the water we drink and the air that we breathe. However, depending on where you work, your exposure to toxic substances could be intensified, contributing significantly to your health issues.

Honest Medicine - "An Honest Medicine Doctor" - Julia Schopick
In this column, patient advocate, Julia Schopick-author of Honest Medicine: Effective, Time-Tested, Inexpensive Treatments for Life-Threatening Diseases-writes about her father, Dr. Lou Schopick. A general practice doctor in Bridgeport, Connecticut back in the 1950s and '60 (the so-called "Good Old Days" of medicine), Dr. Schopick was very critical of his fellow doctors. He condemned them for their greed, as well as for their tunnel vision, which made them see their patients as diseases, rather than as human beings. According to Julia, her dad was the embodiment of Honest Medicine. View more

Honest Medicine: Effective, Time-Tested, Inexpensive Treatments for Life-Threatening Diseases - Julia Schopick
HONEST MEDICINE introduces four lifesaving treatments that have been effectively treating--and in some cases curing--people for 25-90 years. However, for reasons of profitability (or lack thereof), these treatments have not been universally accepted. The treatments are: Low Dose Naltrexone for autoimmune diseases (e.g., multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, etc.) HIV/AIDS and some cancers; the Ketogenic Diet, for pediatric epilepsy; intravenous alpha lipoic acid, for terminal liver disease and some cancers; and Silverlon, for non-healing wounds.
Julia Schopick is the creator of the award-winning blog, HonestMedicine.com, and has been a published writer and a public relations consultant for more than twenty years. When her husband Tim Fisher became ill in 1990 with a cancerous brain tumor, Julia became his medical advocate and began writing on topics relating to health and medicine published in American Medical News, ADVANCE, SEARCH and Alternative and Complementary Therapies. Her work and essays have been featured in the British Medical Journal, Modern Maturity and the Chicago Sun-Times. Her mission is to use her writing and public relations skills to inform the world about little-known but promising treatments via her website, her presentations and this book, and to empower people in their health choices.

The Nut Gourmet - Tangerine Macadamia Dressing
Winter through springtime, when tangerines are in season and at their sweetest and juiciest, is the ideal time to prepare this salad dressing. When available, honey tangerines are a good choice for their ultra-sweetness. Freshly squeezed sweet orange juice makes an excellent substitute and is more readily available throughout the year. Don't rule out tart oranges or tangerines. Both offer great flavor, though they do change the character of the recipe by giving it a sharp pungency. To sweeten, add maple syrup or agave nectar.
